About CoDE

CoDE Concepts and Destiny Student is an Edinburgh based, growing hospitality group with current operations in Edinburgh and Dublin with further expansion plans in the UK and Europe.


The group is owned and led by a highly entrepreneurial CEO who has 20 years of experience in the hospitality and property sector and a track record of starting and growing businesses. CoDE Concepts are developing their first hotel in Edinburgh and looking at development opportunities in London. . 



The CFO was appointed in 2022 to support the owner with the ambitious growth plans and is now looking to recruit a Finance Manager to be responsible for all of the day-to-day finance responsibilities across the group. The Finance Manager will work closely with the senior management to ensure the operational finance needs of the business are achieved. 

Group Overview 

The Loft – Edinburgh

CoDE opened their first hostel in 2014 in Edinburgh with 32 beds. The business was rebranded The Loft in 2020 targeting the Co-Living community with the mix of private and shared rooms.


The Court – Edinburgh

In 2019, CoDE converted a former courthouse and jail into a 240 bed Hostel in the heart of Edinburgh. The CoURT is currently the best rated hostel across all OTA's and Google in Edinburgh.


Destiny Student – UK and Ireland

Destiny Student operates in both UK and Ireland as pop up budget hotel business with over 2,500 beds per night during the summer months. The business complements the hostel business and allows for investment in talent and technology across the group.

 

Lost Close – Edinburgh

The Lost Close is an underground venue in Edinburgh delivering unique events to the public and guests of The CoURT as well as a private events space.

CoDE The Bindery – Edinburgh

CoDE is developing their first hotel in the centre of Edinburgh. The hotel will open in 2026 with 85 bedrooms and large ground floor Food & Beverage offering.


CoDE The NeST – London

CoDE have received planning approval for a site to develop their first Capsule Hotel in central London with over 500 beds.

Jacobs Inn – Dublin

In 2017, together with Patron Capital, CoDE Pod Management acquired Jacobs Inn in Dublin and transformed into a pod-styled hostel with 428 beds. In February 2020, the Hostel was sold to Blackrock Real Assets for in excess of €32m.

THE ROLE

Finance Manager

With a direct reporting line to the CFO, the Finance Manager role will primarily support the growth of the company, improving the current finance systems, controls and procedures. The Finance Manager will be responsible for delivering accurate month end, quarter end and year end reporting. A key focus will be on providing the management team with detailed financial KPIs to allow quick decision making and continuous improvement. 


As a key member of a small team, the candidate will have a detail-oriented mindset and a passion for accuracy who can spot areas of opportunity to drive performance and profitability whilst mitigating financial risks to the business. The successful candidate will have a can-do attitude and a hands-on approach and comfortable working in a small team.

This role represents an excellent opportunity to join a well-funded, ambitious company and work closely with experienced commercial and financial individuals. 


The Finance Manager will be responsible for day-to-day management of the finance function and will be responsible for the delivery of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting for the business, as well as the development of internal control policies and procedures and be a direct support to the CFO. 


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Management Accounts and Balance sheet reconciliations 
  • Cash flow management and forecasts
  • Preparation of annual accounts
  • Payroll and Payments processing
  • Bank reconciliations
  • VAT Returns and all HMRC correspondence
  • Budget vs Actual reconciliations 
  • Preparation of Budgets and Forecast
  • Preparation of Board packs
  • Ad hoc reporting required for management and investors 
  • Processing purchase invoices and payments
  • Managing Receivables and Payables team

Requirements & remuneration

  • Part qualified, newly qualified or qualified by experience accountant
  • Strong management reporting and month end control procedures 
  • Good knowledge of Statutory Accounting, Corporation tax and VAT 
  • Experience of Xero, desirable 
  • Excellent Excel skills 
  • Proactive approach to business partnering
  • Hospitality experience, desirable 
  • Travel to business locations will be required
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Team player and ability to communicate across an organisation 
  • Can Do Attitude and continuous improvement mindset 
  • Ability to manage multiple on-going projects 

The ideal candidate will be a newly or recently qualified accountant (finalist level will be considered with relevant experience) with a strong background in working within fast-paced SMEs. Experience in multi-revenue stream and multi-site operations is essential. Candidates with a background in hospitality or those who have worked in a multi-site SME within a B2C environment will be highly regarded. Additionally, candidates from mid-tier or top 20 firms who possess hands-on accounts preparation experience will be well-suited for this role. 


A proven track record of working as part of a finance team, focusing on continuous improvements in processes, systems, and procedures, is crucial. A strong team-working ethos is also important.

The candidate will have direct working relationships with the CFO and CEO, making it important that they are adept at presenting financial information to senior leadership.
